Careers at Buoyant
Build the AI layer for engineering consulting firms.
Today's agent drafts proposals inside Microsoft Word and Adobe InDesign, grounded in each firm's real project history — live with customers. Tomorrow is the rest of the work: kickoff, QA/QC, compliance, client comms — every workflow that isn't the engineering itself. We're hiring.
How we work
Six things we believe
01 Empiricism over vibes
We build evals before we ship features and measure output quality, not token counts. "Let's fine-tune something" isn't a plan. Applied AI that works in the real world gets there by looking at the data, not by arguing about architectures.
02 Taste is the work
The product isn't code — it's proposals that win or lose eight-figure contracts for engineering firms. Every prompt, retrieval strategy, and fallback is a design decision. Anyone can wire up an LLM. Making it produce work a principal engineer would put their name on is the entire job.
03 Vertical depth is the moat
Our customers know more about environmental remediation, structural inspection, and transportation infrastructure than we ever will. Our job is to amplify their judgment, not replace it. Respect the domain or the product doesn't work.
04 Ship close to reality
You'll sit on customer calls, read losing proposals, and own the loop from RFP to ship. No handoffs. If you want a product manager between you and the users, this isn't the role.
05 Rigor at the trust boundary
When the output goes to a regulator or a procurement officer, hallucinations cost real money and real reputation. Schemas, evals, provenance, compliance tracing — the discipline is what makes the product possible, not a tax on it.
06 Small team, high leverage
A handful of people own everything. You'll ship features you designed, from code you're still answering for in a year. The trade is more ownership and faster learning than anywhere with more process.
Don't see a fit?
We're always happy to hear from strong builders.
If you're excited about the problem and you think you'd be useful here, reach out — even if there isn't a listed role that fits. We'll read it.
